At present, the total quantity of stockbreeding machinery in our country exceeds 8 million units (sets), but its mechanization level is only 35.79%. It is predicted that by 2035, the total output value of animal husbandry in China will account for 52% of the total agricultural output value, making it the largest agricultural industry. But for now, the overall mechanization level of livestock husbandry is not high, the innovation ability of science and technologies is not strong, the supply of some technical equipment is not effective, and the integration of breeding engineering and facilities equipment is not sufficient. The 14th Five-Year Plan for National Agricultural Mechanization Development points out that by 2025, the overall mechanization rate of animal husbandry will reach more than 50%. We should focus on high-quality development of animal husbandry and facilitate intelligent and green animal husbandry by promoting the integration of facilities and equipment with breeding technologies, the integration of mechanization and information technologies of breeding, the adaptation of facility and equipment allocation to farm construction, and the adaptation of mechanized production to moderate scale operation.
In order to better publicize and report the basic theories, key technologies, innovative equipment and new achievements in the application of animal husbandry, the journal plans to launch the special topic of "Intelligent Key Technologies and Equipment of animal husbandry". This topic specially invited Shen Mingxia, a professor in the School of Artificial Intelligence, Nanjing Agricultural University, as a special editor. She is also the director of the Key Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence of the Ministry of Agriculture Farming Equipment, Nanjing Agricultural university. This paper is now open for contributions from experts, scholars, and researchers in related fields.

Mingxia Shen, an expert in intelligent control of Jiangsu Modern Agriculture (Live pigs) Industrial Technology System, she is currently director of the Key Laboratory of Breeding Equipment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and director of Jiangsu Intelligent Animal Husbandry Equipment Science and Technology Innovation Center. She has long been engaged in the application research of automation technologies, Internet of Things and big data in the field of modern aquaculture. She has presided over more than 10 projects at the provincial and ministerial levels, such as the 863, the "Key Projects of Inter-governmental Cooperation in International Science and Technology Innovation" and the "Science and Technology Planning Projects of Jiangsu Province", led an interdisciplinary team to build more than 10 scientific research bases, including Jiangsu Jurong Agricultural Expo Park Demonstration Base, Changshu Dongbang Modern Agriculture Industrial Park iot Agricultural Demonstration Base, Jiangsu JintanYongkang Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Technology Co.,LTD, and Changzhou Kangle large-scale welfare Pig Breeding Demonstration Base. She has won the "Female model Post" of Jiangsu Science and Education System, the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, the first prize of Science and Technology Invention Award of Jiangsu Agricultural Machinery Industry, and more than 20 national invention patents. In recent years, she has published more than 30 high-level academic papers.
